Pineapple Hockey

Foundation & Founders Circle Principles

P — Purpose

Pineapple Hockey is rooted in purpose-driven work focused on access, inclusion, and strengthening community through sport.

I — Inclusion

We welcome participants, families, partners, and supporters from all backgrounds, identities, and walks of life.

N — Neighborly

Pineapple Hockey values connection, warmth, and showing up for one another—rebuilding a sense of shared community.

E — Encouragement

Effort, growth, and participation are celebrated at every stage, not solely outcomes or wins.

A — Access

Financial and structural barriers to participation are actively removed through scholarships, equipment support, and inclusive design.

P — Play

We honor the joy of sport and the importance of age-appropriate, healthy competition.

P — Partnership

Pineapple Hockey thrives through collaboration with artists, athletes, creators, sponsors, volunteers, and communities.

L — Leadership

Core Values

H — Health & Wellness

Pineapple Hockey promotes physical activity, lifelong movement, and healthy habits. The organization intentionally supports efforts to combat childhood obesity by making sport accessible, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate for young people at all levels.

O — Opportunity & Accessibility

Every child deserves the opportunity to participate in sports, regardless of financial circumstances. Pineapple Hockey removes barriers through equipment and gear scholarships, participation cost assistance, and inclusive program design.

C — Community

Sport is a powerful vehicle for connection. Pineapple Hockey prioritizes belonging, shared experience, and neighborhood-level community building that strengthens families and brings people together.

K — Kindness & Respect

Sportsmanship is non-negotiable. Players, families, officials, and opponents are expected to treat one another with dignity, empathy, and respect—on and off the ice.

E — Ethical Fair Play

Pineapple Hockey is committed to ethical competition grounded in integrity, fairness, and respect for the game.

Competition is encouraged when it is healthy, age-appropriate, and aligned with comparable levels of ability and development. Level playing fields matter—not to limit participation, but to ensure that competition builds confidence, resilience, and growth rather than discouragement or harm.

Ethical fair play ensures that:

• Athletes compete in environments suited to their abilities

• Rules are applied consistently and transparently

• Winning is fun and the ability to win is important, however, never outweighs integrity, safety, or respect

Y — Youth Leadership

Team sports are among the most effective environments for developing leadership, accountability, confidence, and collaboration. Pineapple Hockey intentionally nurtures these skills so young people carry them forward into adulthood.

Why Pineapple Hockey?

The pineapple has long been recognized as a symbol of welcome, warmth, and hospitality. Historically, pineapples were placed at the entrances of homes, inns, and gathering places to signal that guests were valued and invited in. Pineapple Hockey embraces this symbolism intentionally, reflecting the kind of environment the organization strives to create — one where young people, families, and communities feel genuinely welcomed, included, and respected.

Beyond hospitality, the pineapple also represents resilience, patience, and growth. A pineapple does not grow quickly or easily; it requires time, care, and the right conditions to thrive. In much the same way, young athletes develop best when they are supported without undue pressure, when safety and encouragement are prioritized, and when progress is measured in growth rather than comparison. Pineapple Hockey believes that development — both athletic and personal — should be nurtured thoughtfully and intentionally.

The pineapple further symbolizes community and shared experience. It is rarely enjoyed alone and is often associated with gatherings, celebrations, and connection. Pineapple Hockey exists not only to support individual players, but to strengthen families, neighborhoods, and communities through sport. Hockey becomes the gathering point, but connection is the true outcome.

Finally, the pineapple reflects a philosophy of belonging without pretense. It is distinctive, recognizable, and unafraid to stand out — much like the communities Pineapple Hockey serves. The organization welcomes participants of all abilities, backgrounds, and circumstances, creating space for healthy competition where appropriate while ensuring that everyone has a place to participate, grow, and belong.

Pineapple Hockey was named not simply for a symbol, but for a set of values: welcome, resilience, community, integrity, and joy. These values guide every decision — from how programs are structured, to how athletes are supported, to how communities are brought together through sport.
